After Darius I, Achaemenid kings chose the names "Darius", "Xerxes" and "Ardashir" as their coronation names. Each of these kings chose one of these names according to the way they coronate, the things that happened to them before they coronate, and the plans and programs they had. These names are neither personal nor real compound name, but a number of compressed nominal composition. The issue of the present study is the selection of names of Darius, Xerxes and Ardashir by the kings of the second branch of the Achaemenid dynasty. In order to find the answer, by using first-hand sources and available researches, the method of selecting coronation names in Achaemenid period will defined in a descriptive-analytical method and the reason for choosing them will be analyzed. The findings of the research indicate that those who chose the coronation name of Darius were not the legal successors of the king, and after going through a period of internal crisis, they were able to reach the throne with prudence and authority. Those who chose the name Xerxes were Crown Prince and legal successor to the king, and coronate without any problems. Those who chose the name Ardashir were legitimate sons of the king and had the legal right to succeed them. However, there were challenges for their succession and they were able to restore order to the royal family after much effort and internal conflict and sit on the throne.
