The Influence of Sasanian Patterns on Andalusia Textiles

Sasanian textiles are important group of Iranian textiles which numbers of them have been conserved in museums and private collections around the world. Sasanian art had influenced its contemporary and following art and civilizations and this influence is totally obvious in Andalusian textile. Sasanian artistic elements are identifiable patently and there are common motifs in textiles of these two regions. The main question of this research is that which decorative patterns of Sasanian art are identifiable in Adalusian textiles? Therefore, this hypothesis will propound that Adalusian weavers had been impressed by Sasanian motifs. This research uses descriptive-comparative method based on library and pictorial sources for studying the influence of Sasanian art on Adalusian textiles. Common motifs such as Lion, Griffin, Eagle and Tree of Life have been used in Sasanian and Adalusian textiles and the patterns of Sasanian Medallion is identifiable as an decorative motif in textiles which had been weaved in Andalucía.
